Best Greek Learning Apps: Duolingo and 6 Strong Alternatives

Duolingo offers a Greek course. We confirmed it in the official course selector on August 8, 2026. This article covers Modern Greek. If your goal is Ancient or Koine Greek, choose resources designed for that language stage instead.

There is no need to replace Duolingo if it keeps you practising. Add the resource that covers the skill its exercises leave weak.

1. Duolingo

Duolingo Greek provides short, game-like lessons for alphabet familiarity, vocabulary, listening, and sentence practice. It is a good free entry point and habit tool.

Its controlled format gives limited room for grammar explanation and unscripted speech. Use another source for the case system and natural listening.

2. Language Transfer

Language Transfer Complete Greek is a free audio course that develops sentences through guided reasoning. It is especially useful for learners who want to understand how Greek is built rather than memorize a phrase list.

The course depends on focused listening and active responses. It has no game loop, large reading library, or personalized feedback, so take notes and say every answer aloud.

3. Mango Languages

Mango Greek uses guided conversations, native audio, and cultural and grammar notes. It offers a more conventional lesson path than Language Transfer.

Access may be included through a library or school. Check before paying, and add independent reading once the course dialogues become comfortable.

4. Pimsleur Greek

Pimsleur Greek focuses on audio and prompted spoken recall. It is useful for travel preparation and learners whose speech lags behind recognition.

Its audio emphasis is not enough for confident reading and spelling. Keep the Greek alphabet visible and write down the phrases you are learning.

The number of lesson series can be distracting. Follow a level pathway and check current plans before assuming teacher feedback or premium tools are included.

Clozemaster Greek offers missing-word sentences for contextual vocabulary. It is most useful after a beginner foundation, when you need to meet more forms and phrases in full sentences.

It is not a sequential grammar course. Corpus sentences can also lack context, so verify anything you plan to reuse.

ChickyTutor Greek practice gives you a private place to turn studied phrases into questions, answers, and roleplays. It is best for Modern Greek output after a reliable lesson, not for teaching Ancient Greek or settling difficult grammar questions.

Use native audio for pronunciation and a teacher or proficient speaker for important corrections. Tell ChickyTutor explicitly that you want Modern Greek.
