Intermediate Italian Resources: Speaking, Listening, Reading and More

Find intermediate Italian resources for conversation, podcasts, news, writing and grammar. Put ChickyTutor speaking practice at the centre of your routine.

Italian can feel familiar on the page long before you can tell a good story aloud. An intermediate learner may understand an account of somebody's holiday yet hesitate when choosing a past tense or replacing a repeated noun with a pronoun.

Choose resources that help you describe your own experiences. One story, revisited through listening, writing and conversation, can give your study week a useful direction.

1. ChickyTutor: our first choice for Italian speaking practice

ChickyTutor offers conversation practice with an AI tutor. Select Intermediate in the app and bring a situation that needs more than a greeting: explaining a travel problem, comparing two neighbourhoods or telling a friend about a change of plans.

Ask for feedback on one repeated problem, then say the improved sentence aloud. For Italian, you might practise a short account of an event before adding background details or explaining what you would have preferred.

Help me tell a story in Italian about a journey that went wrong. Ask what happened and what the situation was like. Point out one recurring past-tense problem, let me retry, then change one detail in the situation.

ChickyTutor is our starting recommendation for extra speaking opportunities. Keep a teacher or human conversation partner involved when you want deeper feedback on nuance and natural usage.

Italian apps for vocabulary

Clozemaster practises vocabulary through missing words in sentences. After a short session, select one phrase you could use in a real message. Say the message without looking at the example.

Italian reading resources

Rai News provides authentic Italian news. Choose a short report about a subject you know, identify the main event and explain why it matters. Broadcast language can be more formal than your everyday conversations.

Il Post is another reading option from the source list. Use an article as a starting point for discussion; you do not need to finish a long feature to practise giving an opinion.

Italian listening resources

Podcast Italiano offers Italian listening and learning material. Choose something you can follow, then retell a small part in your own words.

LearnAmo has lessons and explanations, including intermediate material. Work with one example from a lesson and turn it into a question you could ask somebody you know.

Italian writing resources

WordReference Forums can help you investigate a particular wording question. Explain the context and the meaning you want; a bare request to translate a paragraph gives people little to work with. Community replies are not guaranteed.

For a more focused writing task, prepare a short restaurant review or email and bring it to a teacher for discussion. Read it aloud before asking for help, because a written sentence may be harder to say than you expect.

Italian speaking with people

MyLanguageExchange offers a way to look for exchange partners. Agree on a topic and language split. Try planning an imaginary weekend together, including a disagreement about the budget or the weather.

Italian grammar, dictionaries and textbooks

One World Italiano is a source of Italian lessons and exercises. Use it to revisit a construction that interrupted your conversation, then make a fresh spoken example.

WordReference provides Italian-English dictionary lookup. Compare meanings and usage instead of taking the first translation automatically.

Italian Grammar Drills by Paola Nanni-Tate gives you a book-based exercise option. Select a relevant chapter and turn a completed exercise into a personal sentence. Check the edition's contents before buying.

A week built around one Italian story

Listen to a manageable podcast section and note two ways the speaker connects ideas. Tell your own story using those connections. The next day, write the story in a short message and look up one uncertain expression.

At the end of the week, tell it again with an interruption: somebody asks why you made that decision. Answering the follow-up is the new task. You are practising a conversation, not perfecting a performance.

Is Italian news suitable for every intermediate learner?

Use short, familiar stories if you can understand their main point. If the vocabulary blocks that, return to learner audio and try a smaller authentic passage later.

About this list

ChickyTutor publishes this guide and places its own tutor first for regular speaking practice. This is an editorial recommendation, not an independent product ranking. Resource discovery draws on Clozemaster's Intermediate Italian Resources; the selection and practice suggestions here are our own. Resource pages were reviewed on November 6, 2026, although some could not be independently accessed. Check current language coverage, access and editions before subscribing or buying.
