Intermediate Serbian Resources: Speaking, Listening, Reading and More
Explore intermediate Serbian resources for speaking, reading, listening, grammar and dictionaries, with ChickyTutor first and a practical conversation routine.
Intermediate Serbian asks you to connect several skills at once: understand a spoken reply, retrieve the form you need and stay comfortable with the script in front of you. Repeating beginner introductions only exercises a small part of that work.
Choose a situation with a little uncertainty, such as changing travel plans or explaining a disagreement. Then use the resources below to build the language you need for it.
1. ChickyTutor: our first choice for Serbian speaking practice
ChickyTutor gives you an AI conversation partner for Serbian. Choose Intermediate in the app and practise a short exchange where the tutor asks follow-up questions. You can request feedback and retry a sentence instead of leaving the correction in your notebook.
For a focused session, tell a story in a few connected sentences, then explain what you would do differently. Ask about one recurring case or verb-choice problem rather than requesting a complete grammar analysis after every answer.
Practise Serbian with me. I missed a connection while travelling and need to explain what happened. Ask questions one at a time, help me improve one recurring mistake and let me retell the story with a changed detail.
Use conversation practice to supplement structured study and human interaction. When written examples matter, ask for the script you are practising and verify uncertain forms with a teacher or reference.
Serbian apps and vocabulary
Clozemaster offers sentence gap practice. After a round, use a difficult word in a question rather than another statement.
Anki supports your own flashcards. If you are practising both scripts, include a short example you can read and say with understanding.
Serbian reading resources
Serbian Newspapers Online is a directory of news sources. Choose Serbian-language content deliberately, because some listed sources also offer English. Start with a short local story and explain its main point in three sentences.
The Library of Congress guide to Serbia is a discovery route for further sources, rather than a graded reader. Choose a text whose language, script and difficulty fit your present goal.
Serbian listening resources
RTS Planeta provides access to Serbian broadcasting. Choose a short programme segment you can describe afterwards. Access can depend on registration, location and the programme.
For listening work, first identify the situation and the speakers' positions. On a second pass, focus on one phrase you could use yourself. You do not need to transcribe an entire broadcast to benefit from it.
Serbian writing and speaking with people
Serbonika offers Serbian learning options including lessons and conversation activities. Check the current format and level, then bring a specific task such as explaining a problem or comparing two plans.
MyLanguageExchange is another place to look for partners. Start with a short written account of your week and one question for the other person. Agree on feedback expectations rather than assuming every message will receive detailed corrections.
Serbian grammar, dictionaries and textbooks
Serbian: An Essential Grammar by Lila Hammond is a reference for grammar questions. Start with the construction that interrupted your own answer, then practise it in a new context. It can serve as your book-based grammar companion without adding another beginner course.
Glosbe's English-Serbian dictionary is a lookup option from the source list. Compare examples and verify unfamiliar usage. Forvo is a separate pronunciation resource; a recorded word does not by itself teach its grammar or sentence rhythm.
A week of Serbian practice without repeating introductions
Choose a practical problem: a changed booking, a delayed journey or a repair. Write three facts about it and explain the situation aloud. Read or listen to a short related item, then add one useful expression to your explanation.
At the next session, change the outcome. Ask for a refund instead of a replacement, or propose another date. That small variation forces you to make decisions with the language you have studied.
Should I stop speaking to work on the scripts first?
Keep spoken practice going while giving reading and writing their own small tasks. Ask a teacher which script and spelling conventions fit your course and communication goals; do not treat related languages as interchangeable.
