Japanese Phone Call Scripts: Build a Call You Can Repair
Phone calls remove gestures, facial expression, and the option to point. A useful script therefore needs four functions: open, state the purpose, repair missed information, and confirm the result.
Four lines to adapt
- Open: もしもし、[名前]と申します。
- Purpose: 予約を取りたいのですが。
- Repair: すみません、もう一度お願いします。
- Confirm: では、[日時]でお願いします。
Replace every bracket with real but non-sensitive practice information. Read the completed script against course audio or have a proficient speaker check it before using it with an organization.
This is a learner scaffold for an ordinary appointment call, not a universal business script. Japanese telephone language changes with role, organization, and relationship; have a teacher check the final version.
Rehearse the call in three passes
In pass one, keep the script visible. In pass two, hide the opening and confirmation. In pass three, change the offered date so you must reject it, ask for another option, and confirm the new one.
Include one deliberate listening problem: a date, spelling, or time you do not catch. Use the repair line instead of guessing. A successful practice call ends with an accurate confirmation, not with a flawless memorized monologue.
Use placeholders for private information
Do not put a real patient number, account number, address, or other sensitive identifier into an AI rehearsal. Say “my reference number” or use invented digits. The real organization remains the authority on documents, eligibility, opening hours, and what information it requires.
Run the switchboard in ChickyTutor
Open ChickyTutor for Japanese and paste:
Roleplay an appointment desk. Use this checked script: [script]. Offer one unsuitable time, speak one detail at natural speed, and wait for me to repair or confirm it. After the call, identify one sentence to revise and let me repeat the final confirmation.
ChickyTutor can vary the date and supply another voice turn. It cannot guarantee that a real organization will use the same script or accept the same booking process. Use your course or a Japanese teacher to settle particles, pitch accent, pronunciation, and relationship-sensitive politeness.
