Supermarket Dutch: 20 Phrases for a Real Shop

These twenty phrases cover finding an item, checking a choice, handling the checkout, and repairing missed speech. Prices, return rules, and payment options belong to the actual shop.

Finding and choosing

1. Waar kan ik de melk vinden? — Where can I find the milk?
2. Heeft u dit ook zonder suiker? — Do you also have this without sugar?
3. Is dit product vegetarisch? — Is this product vegetarian?
4. Zitten er noten in? — Does this contain nuts?
5. Wat is het verschil tussen deze twee? — What is the difference between these two?
6. Is dit vandaag in de aanbieding? — Is this on offer today?
7. Waar staat de prijs? — Where is the price shown?
8. Heeft u een kleiner formaat? — Do you have a smaller size?
9. Is er nog meer op voorraad? — Is there more in stock?
10. Mag ik er even langs? — May I get past?

At the checkout

11. Ik wil graag afrekenen. — I would like to pay.
12. Heeft u een klantenkaart? — Do you have a loyalty card?
13. Nee, die heb ik niet. — No, I do not.
14. Wilt u de bon? — Would you like the receipt?
15. Ja, graag. — Yes, please.
16. Nee, bedankt. — No, thank you.
17. Kan ik met pin betalen? — Can I pay by card?
18. Heeft u een tasje nodig? — Do you need a bag?
19. Kunt u dat nog een keer zeggen? — Can you say that again?
20. Volgens mij klopt de prijs niet. — I do not think the price is correct.

Some lines are questions a cashier may ask, so practise recognizing and answering them rather than saying all twenty yourself.
