Best Modern Hebrew Learning Apps for Speaking, Script and Grammar

Choose Modern Hebrew tools for guided speaking with ChickyTutor, script practice, verb reference, native audio and vocabulary review.

Speaking Hebrew, reading unpointed text and recognising verb patterns call for different kinds of practice. ChickyTutor helps you work on spoken sentences at your level. This guide also includes tools for lessons, audio, vocabulary and looking up unfamiliar forms.

These options cover Modern Hebrew. For Biblical Hebrew, choose resources designed for that goal. Everyday Modern Hebrew writing is mostly unpointed, so allow time to practise reading without vowel marks.

Guided speaking and feedback: ChickyTutor

ChickyTutor Hebrew practice leads you through sentences to translate into Modern Hebrew, then gives feedback on what you say. You can ask for an explanation of the grammar or help building your answer.

Beginners can practise short statements and questions. As you progress, work on agreement, tense changes and longer sentences. Advanced practice can focus on expressing an idea precisely and choosing wording that fits the situation. The tutor leads the session at your level.

AI feedback can be mistaken. Check uncertain forms with a reference such as Pealim, and use native audio or a proficient speaker for pronunciation and subtle usage.

Guided lessons: Mango Languages

Mango Modern Hebrew explicitly labels its course as Modern Hebrew. It uses guided conversations, native-speaker dialogue, grammar notes, cultural context, and pronunciation comparison.

Check whether your library, school, or employer offers access. The guided course still needs unpointed reading and freer conversation alongside it.

Listening and spoken recall

Pimsleur Hebrew

Pimsleur Hebrew centers on 30-minute audio lessons with required spoken responses. Its current official page lists three levels, or 90 lessons, plus reading work, making it a serious option for an oral foundation.

It is comparatively expensive and audio-led. Add independent spelling, unpointed reading, and grammar reference; verify plan terms before the trial renews.

HebrewPod101

HebrewPod101 offers audio and video lessons, dialogue explanations, lesson notes, vocabulary tools, and pathways from beginner upward. It is useful when you want more listening topics and short teacher-led breakdowns.

The large catalogue needs a route. Choose one level pathway, and check which feedback or study tools are included in the current subscription rather than assuming every advertised feature is in the basic plan.

Verb forms and meanings: Pealim

Pealim is a root-based reference with meanings and conjugation tables for thousands of Hebrew words. Use it to inspect a verb or pattern that appeared in a real sentence, especially when a form is difficult to recognize in unpointed text.

It is a reference, not a guided course or speaking partner. Do not try to memorize entire tables at once; save one useful form and put it into two sentences.

Vocabulary review: Drops

Drops Hebrew focuses on visual vocabulary practice in short sessions. It can help a beginner collect concrete words and maintain a lightweight review habit.

Its own page emphasizes words, which is also the limitation. Vocabulary games do not teach enough syntax, gender agreement, connected listening, or conversation to serve as a complete plan.

A daily script and sentence habit: Duolingo

Duolingo Hebrew is a free way to build daily contact with the script, common vocabulary, and sentence patterns. It works best for learners who need a repeatable starting habit.

It is not enough for natural conversation, detailed root-and-pattern analysis, or broad listening. Read answers right to left without transliteration, then say one related sentence from memory.

Hebrew appeared in Duolingo's official course selector when checked on August 8, 2026.
