Intermediate Ukrainian Resources: Speaking, Listening, Reading and More

Explore intermediate Ukrainian resources for conversation, podcasts, reading, writing and grammar, with ChickyTutor first and a practical weekly plan.

Intermediate Ukrainian is a good stage to move beyond rehearsed introductions into small stories, reasons and opinions. You may understand more than you can retrieve aloud, especially when an unfamiliar form interrupts your train of thought.

Choose resources around a subject you actually want to discuss. Cultural topics, everyday life and personal interests can be easier to sustain than forcing yourself through difficult news every day.

1. ChickyTutor: our first choice for Ukrainian speaking practice

ChickyTutor offers spoken Ukrainian practice with an AI tutor. Select Intermediate in the app, describe a situation and ask for follow-up questions. Request one useful correction, retry your sentence and continue with a changed detail.

For example, explain a hobby to someone who has never tried it. You have to describe what people do, why you enjoy it and what a beginner should know. Those are useful conversational tasks without needing specialist debate vocabulary.

Practise Ukrainian with me. Ask about a hobby I enjoy and help me explain it to a friend. Ask one follow-up at a time. After a recurring mistake, help me improve the sentence and reuse the pattern with a new detail.

Use AI practice for extra speaking opportunities and keep teacher feedback or human exchanges in the mix. Check a correction when its meaning is unclear or it conflicts with what you have been taught.

Ukrainian apps and vocabulary

Clozemaster offers sentence gap practice. Choose two difficult words and use each in a personal question or explanation.

Anki supports personal flashcards. Include a short phrase that helps you retrieve the word in a situation you care about.

Ukrainian reading resources

Ukrainian Lessons has learning articles alongside its podcast and other materials. Choose a topic you can connect to your own life, read a small section and explain its point aloud.

Chytomo is a source for reading about books and culture. Select Ukrainian-language content and begin with a short piece. It is authentic reading, so vocabulary and difficulty vary.

Ukrainian listening resources

Hromadske Radio offers Ukrainian radio and podcasts. Choose a topic and length that suit you; native interviews can be a substantial step beyond learner audio.

For a more supported session, return to the Ukrainian Lessons podcast and choose material at an appropriate level. Listen once for meaning and again for a phrase you would like to use. Check what accompanying material is included in the current access option.

Ukrainian writing resources

Preply is a tutor marketplace listed by Clozemaster. If you want writing feedback, look for a Ukrainian teacher who offers it and agree on the task in advance. A useful starting point is a short description of your week followed by a conversation about it.

Keep the first draft your own. Ask which two changes most affect clarity rather than requesting a polished replacement you cannot explain.

Ukrainian speaking with people

ConversationExchange is an option for finding language partners. Suggest one topic and agree how to share time between languages. Participation and replies depend on finding a suitable match.

Ukrainian grammar, dictionaries and textbooks

Colloquial Ukrainian is a structured course. It starts from the basics, so intermediate learners should inspect the contents and use relevant later units or revisit gaps. Check the authors and edition when buying, because the course has been revised.

Lexilogos's Ukrainian dictionary directory links to several dictionary resources, including Ukrainian-language references. It is a directory rather than a single dictionary; inspect the destination and compare the entry's meaning with your sentence.

A Ukrainian practice week around a personal interest

Listen to a manageable learner episode, then explain a related experience in your own words. Read a short cultural piece and collect three expressions. Write a message recommending something to a friend and check one uncertain construction.

In your next conversation, answer a new question: who would enjoy the activity, what would it cost in time, or what might go wrong? Changing the question helps you use the language beyond one prepared account.

Do I have to practise with news about difficult events?

Choose material you can engage with consistently. Books, food, hobbies and ordinary life are valid subjects for intermediate practice. You can develop the language needed for more demanding topics gradually.
